The cultural exchange of the KELME 2019 FISU University World Cup-Football is drawing to a close. On the morning of November 30, footballers and coaches from Julius-Maximilians University of Wurzburg (Germany), Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University (Ukraine), and International University of Language and Media (Italy) visited Quanzhou Vocational and Technical University, to interact with local university students and experience campus culture.
There were a variety of traditional cultural experience activities such as calligraphy, Chinese traditional clothing, movable-type printing, the art of tea making, sand painting, paper cutting, and ceramic art, etc. Athletes and coaches entered the classroom and worked with teachers and students of Quanzhou Vocational and Technical University to experience traditional Chinese culture.
In Yuanyun Guoxue Workshop, athletes put on Chinese traditional clothing and learned Chinese traditional etiquette from teachers. "Chinese traditional clothing is very special. And Chinese traditional clothing has become popular in the past two years and can be seen abroad," said Yaroslav from Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University. Everyone loves for the clothing, he added. Andrey from the same team said, "The clothes are very nice and comfortable to wear."
In addition, outdoor traditional games such as Mushe (a traditional ball game by rolling wooden ball to strike a wooden post placed on the ground), shuttlecock, Chuiwan (an ancient royal bat and ball game) and Touhu (a traditional Chinese game that requires players to throw sticks from a set distance into a canister) have been loved many athletes and coaches, adding a lot of fun to the activity.
"During the cultural exchange these days, the players were very interested in Jinjiang's traditional culture and architecture, and hope to come to the beach of Jinjiang next time,” said Zhang Lincai, a volunteer accompanying the Ukrainian team. Talking about his experience in volunteer work during the activity, he said, "It is very nice to meet friends from all over the world. Being volunteer is a very good experience and I hope to continue to serve as a volunteer next year."
The cultural exchange will last for 6 days until December 1. The athletes and coaches of the participating teams will be organized to visit scenic spots, enterprises and universities in the spare time during the competition to exchange experiences, so as to help players gain a different picture of Jinjiang. At the same time, it will further expand the influence of the competition, serve the competition, show unique culture prevalent in southern Fujian, and enhance the understanding of local culture.
